Adult manga in library collections

I started collecting Adult Graphic Novels this January, so I’m still relatively new to it. A patron recently requested an ecchi manga that just got a show on a popular streaming service. It’s a current series not available in nearby libraries, making it a promising addition to our collection.

I see myself as open-minded and initially intended to order it. However, I hesitated when I realized the series includes a significant amount of kink and fan service.

What are your thoughts and experiences with adult manga in library collections? Any advice? Should I proceed with ordering it, or should I take cues from other libraries and possibly avoid it?

Was that the only customer who requested the series, or do you have other patrons who have read it? Stated differently, how would this series’ distribution in your area look like?

New to adult manga? Adding ecchi can be tricky! Some libraries avoid it, others offer curated selections. This title’s new and in-demand, but with “kink” and “fan service.” Think: Is the story strong? Does it fit your existing collection? Talk to colleagues or follow collection guidelines. You can still order it, but restrict it to adult patrons only.
