Last week, my kid got hurt at school. The clinic called, saying he slipped on mulch, but when I got there, he was in bad shape. Took him to the hospital, and it turns out he broke two bones and needed surgery. Now he’s telling me another kid pushed him off the equipment, and a teacher was there when it happened. The school says there’s no CCTV footage from that area, and their story keeps changing. I’ve got a meeting with the school coming up. Any advice?
That sounds really frustrating. Have you asked to speak to the teacher who saw it happen?

I haven’t yet, but the principal said a teacher saw it. I plan to ask more about it during the meeting.

Yeah, I’d push for a conversation with them. They might have info the principal isn’t sharing.
No working cameras in the area? That’s so sketchy. Schools should have that stuff for safety reasons.

Exactly what I thought. Seems way too convenient that the cameras don’t work in that exact spot.

If they’re hiding something, it’s better to get legal advice sooner rather than later. Just saying.
Have they at least offered to cover medical costs? Sounds like this could’ve been avoided with better supervision.

Not yet, but I’ll definitely bring it up at the meeting. Feels like they should take some responsibility.

I’d be furious. You’re handling this way better than I would lol.
Schools are supposed to ensure kids are safe, so if a teacher saw the push and didn’t intervene, that’s on them.

Yeah, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. Was this just a freak accident or poor supervision?

Definitely ask them about their policies. If supervision was lacking, that’s serious.
FYI, schools usually have liability insurance for cases like this. Might be worth looking into that if they don’t cooperate.

Good to know, thanks. I’ll keep that in mind depending on how the meeting goes.

What does FYI mean again? I always mix up these abbreviations.

FYI = For Your Information! Hope that clears it up .
When you meet with the school, stay calm but firm. Write down your questions ahead of time so they can’t dodge them.

Thanks for the advice. I’m definitely going to prepare as much as possible beforehand.

Bring someone with you too. Having backup can help you feel more confident during the meeting.
