Anyone else dealing with grading issues at university?

I’ve been going back and forth with my university about a grade issue. I initially reached out to my professor asking for a grade change, and he said he’d submit it. I waited for a few weeks, but when I followed up, he told me that the change wouldn’t be approved. The grade I got doesn’t reflect my actual performance, but it’s because I didn’t meet my goal on the planning sheet. I could’ve updated the sheet during weeks 3-7, but there wasn’t enough communication from my mentor. After spending over a month trying to resolve this with the university, they suggested I submit a formal request. But now, they’re saying my request is too late… What are my options?

This sounds really frustrating! I had something similar happen where I wasn’t able to get the grade change I needed. Have you tried getting in touch with someone higher up in the university?

Yeah, I’ve been trying but the university is making it really hard to escalate. They don’t even seem to want to consider my formal request because of the timing issue.

I had the same issue with a mentor not providing enough support. Honestly, I think it’s time to escalate to the department head. You’ve been trying to work things out informally for long enough.

I agree, I might have to do that. The problem is, I can’t even find who to contact next.

If you can, try to document everything. Emails, texts, whatever. That’ll help if you need to go higher up the chain.

I’ve kept all the emails and texts. It’s just so hard to get a direct answer from anyone.

Also, if your disability accommodations weren’t properly considered, that could be a major issue. You should definitely bring that up when you escalate.

I didn’t even think about that! I’ll make sure to include it. Thanks!

Ugh, sounds like a mess. I’d try to get more specific info on why they won’t approve the grade change. The more details you have, the better chance you have at appealing.

I will, definitely. I’m just trying to figure out what wording I should use when I ask for more details. I feel like I’m missing something.
