Anyone else find this odd about ADA requests

My employer sent this weird follow-up after our interactive ADA meeting. They never asked for this before when my doctor first made recommendations. It only came after a meeting where they suggested things I couldn’t do. What’s the deal here? They’re making things so complicated, even though the solution is simple and cost-free. Am I overthinking this, or is this normal?

Yeah, that does seem a bit fishy. Did they explain why they need to verify the documents now?

Nope, they didn’t. They’re asking if the nurse practitioner who signed them is legit, but why now and not earlier?

Maybe they’re looking for a reason to challenge the recommendation? Could be a tactic to delay things.

@Finn
Makes sense. I’ve heard of employers doing stuff like this to avoid accommodations. Frustrating!

Are you asking to work remotely or something? Some employers get weird about remote setups.

Pretty much! I just want to attend two required meetings via Zoom. Traveling isn’t possible for me right now.

Wait, Zoom is an issue? That sounds like a really simple accommodation. Why are they being so difficult?

@Toby
Exactly! It’s not like I’m asking for anything expensive or complicated. Just two Zoom meetings!

Out of curiosity, what happens if they ask for a second medical opinion?

I’ve thought about that. I only see holistic doctors, so I’d refuse if it conflicts with my medical beliefs.

Holistic doctors? What’s that mean? Like alternative medicine?

Yeah, more focused on natural and regenerative practices instead of standard Western medicine. Works better for me.

It could be a stalling tactic. They might want more time to deny or complicate your ADA request.

Ugh, that’s what it feels like. My lawyer says it’s still in a resolution phase, not a case yet.

Makes sense. Keep documenting everything just in case it escalates later. You’ve got this!

I’d ask why they’re verifying things now. It’s not a bad idea to push for clarity.

Good point. I think I’ll do that. At least then they can’t claim I’m avoiding communication.
