Anyone else’s school keep their phone after detention... what now?

So, my daughter’s phone got taken by the school before she went to detention, and now they’re not giving it back. It’s been hard to get in touch with her. What should I do to get her phone back?

That’s really frustrating! I’d start by calling the detention center to see if they have a rule about keeping phones. You could also talk to the school to find out their process for returning them.

Exactly. You might want to ask the principal directly about their policy. If it’s not clear, that could help get things moving.

@Keir
Yeah, I’ll definitely ask for a meeting. This whole thing is a mess and it’s really stressful.

Definitely ask them for written policies on confiscating phones. If they don’t have anything formal in place, it’ll be harder for them to hold onto it.

I hadn’t thought about that, but I will ask for that. Thanks for the tip!

If they still won’t give it back, a formal written request might help. Just explain everything and ask for it back, and hopefully that gets a response.

I’ll do that! I think it’s worth a shot to get them to take me seriously.

If the school’s not responding, there could be some legal stuff going on, especially if they’re not letting you communicate with your kid. An attorney might be able to help with that.

I’m considering that if they keep dragging this out. Thanks for the suggestion!

It sounds like you’re doing everything right. Keep pushing them, and don’t back down. Hopefully, this gets resolved soon.

Thank you for the encouragement! I’ll keep at it and hope it works out.
