I thought Chromebooks only got 10 years of support. I had to replace my old one after it broke, and the second cheapest option I found was AU$329. I was worried I rushed into it, so I checked in Settings > About ChromeOS > Additional details, and it says my device will get updates until June 2035, and it’s only September 2024 now.
The model is an HP Chromebook 14a-nf0007TU (weird mix of uppercase and lowercase letters), but Google’s Auto Update page says it’ll get updates until June 2033. Could the extra time be because of when it was made, and the date just got rounded up?

You’re probably not gonna use it until 2035, right? I doubt anyone keeps a device that long.
Yeah, I might not keep it that long, but it’s nice to know it’s supported until then. I often pass my old Chromebooks on to retired folks, some of them are using ones that are almost 10 years old and no longer supported.
Just keep in mind that before it reaches 10 or 11 years, it’ll likely switch to the LTS channel. That means no more new features or big updates, just basic security patches, which usually pushes people to upgrade.

I checked the policy and yeah, you’re right, it says security and stability updates will last for 10 years from the platform release. But I’ve seen other Chromebooks keep getting new versions, which is fine for me since I only use web apps these days. I stopped relying on local apps a long time ago.

Just so you know, they stop getting full updates on the LTS channel before reaching the end of support. Check this post: LTS candidate channel
Don’t expect it to stay up to date with the main Stable channel for 10+ years. It’ll only get important security fixes and patches.
