Have you ever taken some time off from social media? What was good about it, and what were the hard parts? I’m curious how it changed your friendships and daily life.

I’ve done it a few times for months. Honestly, it’s been all good.
Friendships weren’t affected. If they were, I guess they weren’t real friendships.

It’s nice that you can take breaks without too much trouble. My friend keeps trying to take breaks but finds it really tough.

It’s actually hard for me too. That’s why I started it in the first place. But I do believe anyone can do it if they try.
Cons: none really, though sometimes I felt a bit lonely. But honestly, I felt that even with social media.
Pros: better self-esteem, I can handle my emotions better, more creativity, less anxiety, and stronger connections. I read a lot more now too.

Hey, just wondering how you did it? Did you just delete the apps and that was it?
I took a 6-year break from social media, and it was great. Now that I’m back, I see how much I missed, and I’m enjoying catching up. I love sharing my photography and seeing what my friends are up to. It’s like being a kid back in a fascinating world.
I’ve done it many times over the past 4 years, and I love taking social media breaks. You get to see who actually cares enough to check in. Those are the people who will stick around. It also helps with mental health, less negativity around you. Social media is often just an escape for most, not real life.
If you want to take a break to clear your mind and find some peace, I say go for it!

I deactivated my Facebook 8 years ago and it was the best decision. No drama, just focusing on me.

You definitely get more done on days when you’re not on social media much.

I used social media mainly because I was lonely. I’m not addicted, so I turned off notifications for most apps, except for keeping in touch with my family overseas. Now I go on social media only when I feel like it. Having local friends and a partner who isn’t on social media makes everything feel a lot healthier.

I try to do this every summer, usually for two weeks or so.
Pros: It really helps with anxiety when I’m not attached to my phone all the time. I felt more free. I still used my phone for photos, but I kept the data off.
Cons: Sometimes I felt like I was missing out on what others were doing, but I just met up with people instead, which led to deeper connections.
Sometimes I take one day a week away from my phone and let everyone know, so they don’t worry. Having a set day makes it easier.

Don’t put too much of yourself into social media. That way, you won’t feel the need to take breaks.

Exactly! Posting stuff takes a lot out of you, and you start looking for validation. I was just about to post something about my vacation, but I stopped myself. I don’t need likes from acquaintances. I share photos with close friends on WhatsApp, where I get real responses.

Didn’t change anything for me. I don’t have a social life anyway.

It’s been all positive for me. Try stacking it with other habits, like replacing it. Instead of scrolling in the morning, I play brain games.

I took a month off. No posting, only used messenger if a friend really needed me. It was amazing. The only problem is that you might lose touch with some people because they think you’re ignoring them when you’re just not online much.

I took breaks a few times, but it didn’t work at first. I was too hooked. This time I’ve been off Instagram for 6 months, and now I keep forgetting it even exists. I feel more focused and have more time for other things.
