Anyone have experience with ADA accommodations?

I have a question about ADA accommodations at work and what’s involved in getting one. Anyone know how the process works and what kind of paperwork I’d need?

You’ll probably need a letter from your doctor saying what kind of accommodation you need. They can’t just deny it if it’s reasonable.

Good to know. Do they have to work with me if it’s something simple?

Yeah, they’re supposed to discuss it with you and see if they can make it work.

If they decide it’s not reasonable, you could file a complaint with the EEOC. They’ll look into it for you.

That’s good to know. I didn’t realize there was a complaint process for this stuff.

It helps to have everything documented. Keep copies of any requests you make and their responses.

Definitely. I’ll start saving all the emails just in case.

I went through this with my employer. They actually made a counter offer instead of what I requested, but it worked out.

What kind of counter offer did they suggest? I didn’t know they could do that.

Yeah, they offered a similar accommodation but a bit different from my original request. It was still helpful though.

If they deny a reasonable request, you can always look into an EEOC complaint. They’re there to help with ADA stuff.

Thanks! Knowing I have that option makes me feel a bit better.
