Does anyone here know of a breeder for raccoons that’s legit? All I’ve been finding online are scams.
Why not just get a cat? They’re much easier to take care of.
Have you thought about coatimundis? They’re related to raccoons, pretty common in the exotic pet community, and easier to find.
Honestly, raccoons aren’t great pets. If you want something small with cute little hands, I’d suggest rats. They’re super smart, playful, and less likely to bite you than a raccoon.

Yeah, but rats don’t live long. It’s tough losing pets so often.

True, but I’d rather have a rat for a few good years than deal with an unpredictable raccoon that could destroy everything in my house.

Also, raccoons don’t actually live much longer. Pet rats and raccoons have about the same lifespan.

Wow, really? I thought raccoons lived longer, especially in captivity. I guess a lot of them get hit by cars in the wild.
Are you in New York?
You might want to check in Ohio. I’ve heard they’re more common there.
Look on Facebook groups for people who keep raccoons as pets. They’re more active in the spring when babies are available. It’s not the right season right now.
You’ll probably have better luck on Facebook, even though selling raccoons is technically banned. Exotic animal groups often discuss breeders there. Also, check out local animal swaps; I used to sell rabbits at those events, and they usually have a variety of exotic animals.
Keep in mind, raccoons can destroy your house. I thought about getting one but decided against it after I saw how destructive they could be. I had a pet woodchuck for a while, but she passed away earlier this year. I’m planning to get another baby woodchuck this spring.
If you’re serious about a raccoon, spring is the best time to search. That’s when they’re usually available.
