Wondering if there are any affordable American drones out there. Seems like foreign drones might be restricted soon.
A lot of folks ask about which drones to buy, so check out the weekly recommendations thread on this forum. You’ll find lots of Q&A there.

Honestly, there aren’t any affordable American drones.

Barely any American-made drones exist, and those that do aren’t for casual use.
Yeah, there’s really no such thing as a cheap American-made drone.
Are you looking for something under $10k or over?

The person who posted this might be looking for something that’s hard to find because ‘cheap’ doesn’t really fit here. Skydio is considered cheap… compared to options like Freefly, Harris, and other high-end brands.
@Jesse
None of those even come close to DJI products, which have been top-notch for years.

It’s crazy. These American-made ones cost so much but have fewer features.

It’s funny, right? It seems like only other countries are really pushing the boundaries on affordable advanced drones while we make ours pricier. This plan to regulate the industry here feels like a big gamble.
@Drew
What regulations are we talking about exactly?
Any ban probably wouldn’t apply to drones you already own.

Customs has already started holding up drones. This could get trickier with the new administration.
Not much variety out there… you’ll find maybe a couple of options… but not a lot to choose from.
If it’s any comfort, tariffs on foreign drones might make U.S.-made drones seem more affordable by comparison. Something to look forward to, maybe?
Are you planning to build one yourself?
Electronics made here are just expensive to produce, so it’s hard to find cheap American-made drones.

Rotor Riot has a U.S.-made flight controller that’s compliant with the law for about $58.
@Joss
A flight controller isn’t the same as a complete drone, though. And these are mostly for FPV setups, not like the ready-to-fly DJI drones.

The person I replied to was asking about electronics in general.
