Anyone tried Grandma Lucy's banana and sweet potato biscuits?

I just got Grandma Lucy’s Banana and Sweet Potato biscuits, but now I’m worried because I’ve heard sweet potatoes might be linked to DCM. Are small amounts okay, or should I just toss them?

For context, my pup eats Purina Pro Plan kibble softened with Honest Kitchen turkey broth, Instinct Raw Boost Mixers (beef and lamb) as treats, and Nutrience SubZero freeze-dried salmon treats.

It’s tough to say for sure, but most vets think small amounts of treats are fine and won’t cause DCM. Honestly, freeze-dried raw treats might pose more of a risk than the biscuits.

Good point, I’ll switch to cooked or oven-baked salmon treats instead. Thanks!

Nice! For what it’s worth, I’ve used Zuke’s Mini Naturals salmon flavor, and my dog loves them.

Appreciate the tip! I’ll check those out. :slight_smile:

A few treats here and there won’t cause DCM, but too many toppers or treats can throw off a balanced diet. Definitely consider cutting out the freeze-dried raw stuff.

Got it, I’ll make that change. Thanks!

Potatoes might be linked, but in small amounts, they’re probably okay. Honestly, the freeze-dried raw is more concerning. Just curious—why are you softening the kibble with broth? Dry kibble can be good for dental health if your pup is old enough to eat it.

@Peyton
Thanks for the input! I’m softening the kibble because she’s only 4 months old, and I’ve heard pups this age might not handle hard food well since they’re still teething. Would dry kibble be better, though?

@Mai
That makes sense! Puppies can often eat dry kibble by 3-4 months, but if you feel better waiting until her adult teeth come in, softening it is fine.

Good to know, thanks! I might try dry kibble when she’s 5 months and see how she does. :slight_smile:

Just so you know, potatoes and sweet potatoes are different plants altogether.

Yeah, but I read on the AKC site that peas, potatoes, and sweet potatoes might all be linked to DCM. :frowning:
