Best replacement for my Pixelbook?

I’ve been using my 2017 Pixelbook every day, and it’s been the best laptop I’ve ever had. But it’s getting old now, and I think it’s time for a new one. I haven’t kept up with the latest models. Is there anything similar in 2024? If not, what’s the best Chromebook right now?

I mostly use it for watching videos, streaming, and browsing. Any advice would be really helpful!

Samsung is supposed to announce details and prices for their Chromebook Plus this week. It’ll have an OLED screen and come with either 8GB (Core 3 100U) or 16GB RAM (Core 5 120U) options.

Just a heads-up, it might have a numeric keypad, which could mean it’s at least 15.6 inches and not a smaller 13-14 inch one.

I’m looking too. The Asus CX54 looks worth checking out.

Thanks! I’ll take a look at it.

Nothing really beats the Pixelbook yet. We might be waiting for a long time before something better comes along.

True.

Pixelbook is close to the perfect laptop design in my opinion.

My Pixelbook is the nicest laptop I’ve owned. I got a used one a few years ago for $300, and it’s way better than any Chromebook in the same price range.

I don’t use it every day though, mostly for travel, so it should last me a few more years.

Still, not excited about having to find a replacement when the time comes. I wish Google kept making them.

@Flann
Yeah, it filled a niche for sure!

There’s no real replacement yet. I got a used HP Dragonfly Elite a few months ago, hoping it would be the answer. It’s fine for what I paid ($400), but I wouldn’t pay full price for it. Still not as good as the Pixelbook.

Keeping an eye on the new Samsung device, though. That one looks promising.

Check out the Acer 516GE, even though it’s labeled as a “gaming” edition. It has an i7 or i5 processor option, 16GB of RAM, and a 120Hz 2.5K screen. It also has an Intel Xe graphics processor, which is pretty decent.

I’ve got one, and it’s a solid machine. The aluminum body feels sturdy, the screen is great for video editing, and it performs as well or better than my Windows laptop.

If you’re going second-hand and want a bigger screen, look for a Lenovo IP 5 Gaming 16IAU7. They’re discontinued, but I found one for $180, and it’s been great.

If you want something new, there are some new models coming soon. Might be worth waiting until November sales.

Asus CX54 is also a good option with a touchscreen. I don’t like touchscreens much, but a lot of people do.

Or you could get an older laptop and use Chrome OS Flex, though that won’t run Android apps. I mostly use my Chromebook for emulators and game streaming from my Xbox and PC.

Best Pixelbook replacement? Go for a MacBook Pro 16" M3 Max.

It’s heavier, not fanless like the Air, and doesn’t have a 3:2 screen. Not really in the same class as a Pixelbook.
