BSOD 'registry_error' Windows 11

I posted the same question in other forums, but they were absolutely no help. Even contacted Microsoft, and it was just as useless. I picked up a new monitor last night, and it was running like a dream until just now. My PC froze up, so I had to reboot it. But when I restarted, I was greeted by this annoying blue screen that I can’t get past. I’ve unplugged everything, switched out the DisplayPort cables, and even hooked up my old monitor to see if that would help, but no luck. I tried all three DisplayPort versions, and I still can’t get past that blue screen. It restarts, but the screen just stays black. I didn’t install or add anything differently.

Getting dump files is essential for accurate analysis of BSODs. If you can get into Windows normally or through Safe Mode, check C:\Windows\Minidump for any dump files. If you have any, copy the folder to the desktop, zip it, and upload it. If you don’t have zip software, right-click the folder and select Send to → Compressed (Zipped) folder. Upload it to a file sharing site like catbox.moe or mediafire.com.

Just reinstall Windows. My guess is that your display driver messed with your previous monitor’s driver by colliding with the same registry key. This will be the fastest way to figure it out. You can recover any data in the Windows environment of the USB flash drive you use to reinstall Windows by pressing shift + f10 to open Notepad and then saving to get a small explorer window where you can copy what you want.

That sounds like a plan. I didn’t think about the driver colliding. Thanks for the tip!

Also, if you’re able to get into Safe Mode, that’s even better since you can get the BSOD dumps and use DDU to uninstall both drivers if they’re the cause.

I’ll definitely try Safe Mode first before reinstalling. Appreciate the advice!

Making changes to your system BIOS settings or disk setup can cause you to lose data. Always test your data backups before making changes to your PC.
