I got academically disqualified from my school back in January. In March, I sent a text to another student, and now the school says it was vulgar and wants to start a code of conduct investigation. But like, I’m not even a student anymore? How can their rules still apply to me? Has anyone dealt with this kind of thing?
Weird… if you’re not enrolled, why would they still have jurisdiction? You should definitely check their policy.

Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking too. I need to read through their code of conduct to see if this even makes sense.

If it’s not clear, you might be able to push back on it. Schools sometimes overreach with these things.
Was the person you sent the text to still a student? That might be why they’re trying to say it’s their business.

Yeah, they’re still enrolled. I guess that’s the angle the school’s taking, but it still feels like a stretch.

It could be their way of protecting current students, but it still seems like they’re pushing it.
Check if their rules mention a time limit for disciplinary actions. Some schools don’t allow investigations months later.

Good idea. If they’re out of time, that could help me push back. Thanks for the tip!
Also, see if their rules apply to ex-students. They can’t just make stuff up if you’re no longer part of the school.

True, but schools sometimes have clauses for behavior involving their current students. It’s worth double-checking.

Yeah, I’ll definitely look into whether they even mention former students in their rules. Appreciate it!
If the code of conduct is vague, you can challenge it. Schools aren’t supposed to enforce unclear rules.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. If it’s not clear, I’ll definitely fight it. Thanks for pointing that out!
