Can any drone still beat the Skydio 2 after 4 years… tracking on this thing is wild

The Skydio 2 with its Beacon is still amazing at tracking after all these years. No other drone seems to do it as well. I can’t seem to find a good replacement for it. Thoughts?

The tracking is great, but everything else about it is disappointing. The company has done some shady things.

What did they do that’s so bad?

They’ve been lobbying against Chinese competitors like DJI while still sourcing parts from China. Then they pulled out of the lower pro market and started selling overpriced drones with bad cameras. And now they’re facing issues because China banned their battery exports. So, you could end up with an expensive drone and no spare batteries.

The tracking is impressive, but the framing is inconsistent, and it looks like it’s always about to crash into things.

To be fair, it was flying through a bunch of trees. The person who posted it could have set it up differently, like positioning it in front or behind the rider to avoid obstacles.

@Harlan
Also, the person was inconsistent with their speed, which might have made it harder for the drone.

Other drones just give up and stop when they lose visual contact. This one can keep going, even through thick areas like overgrown trails.

@Flynt
Skydio has stopped supporting their consumer market, so even if it’s good now, what happens when it breaks and you can’t get parts? They’ve shifted focus to trying to ban DJI instead of making better drones.

@Sage
Completely agree. I’ve been trying to find a replacement since they stopped supporting it, but nothing compares. I’ve heard rumours that DJI might release a beacon. Really hoping that happens.

@Flynt
No matter what people say about the company, this drone’s tracking is amazing. When I got my Mavic Air, I thought it’d be this good, but it ended up flying straight into a tree.

It’s a shame how bad Skydio is as a company.

Skydio is awful, and the people running it are even worse.

Why do you say that? What did they do?

They’re behind the push to get DJI drones banned by lobbying lawmakers. They want to eliminate competition through legal means rather than making better products.

@Nathan
That’s the only reason you think Skydio sucks? There’s got to be more to it than that.

DJI dominates the market because they make affordable, high-quality drones. Skydio, on the other hand, sells overpriced drones that don’t perform as well. So, trying to ban DJI is a big deal for people who already own their products. If a ban goes through, it could make their gear useless.

@Nathan
Makes sense. What’s the worst thing they’ve done?

Probably funding multiple lawmakers to push these bans. There’s evidence of donations, but I’m not digging it up right now.

It can track well, but what’s going on with the production quality of the video?
