Hey everyone, so I always thought you couldn’t get pregnant on your period, but a friend just told me that’s not always true. I used to skip protection during that time because of this, but now I’m freaking out a little.
Has anyone else heard about this? Is there any truth to it? Thanks in advance for the info
To put an end to further misunderstanding, it is possible to become pregnant while on your period.
Due to the short half-life of sperm in the uterus, being pregnant can occur from having intercourse during your menstrual cycle and having an egg released by your body a few days later. It only occurs when you have an irregular cycle, but you should always take contraception because anyone can experience a shift in their cycle, even if they have been having regular periods.
I find her suggestion to be quite audacious, regardless of the timing. I wouldn’t do it unless you’re both comfortable with the possibility of starting a family.
Hi , It is unlikely but possible to get pregnant during your period, especially if you have a shorter menstrual cycle or irregular ovulation. Sperm can survive in the body for several days, potentially overlapping with ovulation if it occurs earlier than expected. Using contraception consistently is important to prevent unintended pregnancy regardless of menstrual timing.
