We filed a complaint against my son’s high school baseball coach for being hostile and creating an aggressive environment. Despite having evidence and witnesses, the school dismissed it as ‘unfounded.’ Now, out of nowhere, the coach had a retired attorney send a cease and desist letter to our home. It feels like retaliation. Has anyone dealt with something like this? What should we do?
That’s wild! Did you check if the school knows about the letter? Seems super inappropriate.

I don’t think they know. Should I tell them about it?

Definitely. Even if they don’t do anything, you’ll at least have a record of it.
Sending that letter seems like a scare tactic. Maybe check your district’s policies on retaliation?

Good idea. I’ll look into it. Hopefully, they have something clear about situations like this.

Most districts have rules about retaliation, especially after complaints. Worth digging into.
You might want to talk to a lawyer just to cover your bases. They can help you figure out how to respond.

We’re thinking about that. Do you think we need a specialist in education law?

If it’s about school policies, an education lawyer would be ideal. But any good attorney can handle the cease and desist part.
That coach sounds out of line. Threatening kids to keep quiet is definitely a red flag. The school should have done more.

Exactly. His behavior is so controlling, and the school just brushes it off. It’s really frustrating.
You might get better results by filing a complaint with the school board instead of the administration. They could take it more seriously.

Good point. I hadn’t thought about going to the board directly. I’ll look into that.

It’s worth a try. The board might be more willing to step in than the school staff.
