I’ve had a Navient student loan since 2011—over $44K—and I never got my diploma or certificate from Strattford University. I did finish my Associate Degree in Health & Science, but they never sent me the actual certificate. I’ve been making small payments, but now it’s over $500 a month, and we’re using our savings just to get by. It’s even harder since we’re also helping pay for our kids’ student loans. Has anyone dealt with something similar or knows what steps I can take?
Man, that’s rough. You should look into income-driven repayment plans—they can make your payments more manageable.

I’ve heard of those but don’t know how they work. Can I set it up through Navient?

You apply through the federal site. They base payments on your income, and after a set time, the rest might get forgiven.

Yeah, the site is studentaid.gov. It’s pretty straightforward. Definitely worth checking out.
Did you ever follow up with Strattford about the diploma? Sounds like they completely ghosted you.

I did a few times, and they kept saying they’d check and call back. Nothing ever happened, and it’s been 10+ years.

You might need to get a lawyer involved. They could help force the school to deliver the diploma.
Wait, what’s a non-suited case? I don’t think I’ve heard that before.

It’s when a case gets dismissed because the other side doesn’t show up. They tried to sue me for $4,400, but no one from their side came to court.

Gotcha. At least that part’s over, but wow, what a mess with everything else.
If you’re not working, you might qualify for $0 payments on an income-driven plan. Could give you some breathing room.

That sounds like exactly what I need right now. Thanks for the tip—I’ll look into it!

$44K for that course is wild. Didn’t other people pay way less for the same program?
Yep, my friends at NOVA only paid $1,900 for the same course. It’s so frustrating to think about.
