Does anyone know if Florida elementary schools have to notify parents every time a child gets medical treatment at the school clinic? I know there are exceptions like pregnancy, STD testing, birth control, or if telling the parent would put the kid in danger, but what about just regular stuff? Like giving Tylenol or cleaning up a scrape? Just trying to understand what the rules are.
Pretty sure they’re supposed to notify parents unless it’s one of those exceptions. Have you checked with the school?

Not yet, just trying to get a general idea first. Seems like different schools handle it differently.

Yeah, some schools will call for every little thing, others just send a note home.
I think they have to tell you if they give any kind of medication. Basic first aid, like a bandaid, probably not.

That makes sense. I just wasn’t sure if there was an actual rule about it.

Might depend on whether you’ve signed a consent form at the beginning of the year too.
You should check your district’s policy. Some schools have stricter rules about notifying parents.

Good point. I’ll take a look at that.

Might also be worth asking the school nurse. They probably know exactly what the policy is.
I know they need permission to give any kind of medicine, but I doubt they call home for minor stuff like ice packs.

Yeah, I just wanted to be sure since I’ve heard mixed answers.
