Furret question

Hey everyone, I’m about to adopt 2 baby ferrets and I have some questions for the ferret owners. How much time a day do you spend with them, and how do you play with them? Do you have setups for them to explore? I like to game a little as well when I get home and I’m asking these questions because I don’t want to lack the attention they need. Thanks in advance!

Ferrets are mental, but great fun! They sleep most of the day and need loads of enrichment and space. If you have a shed, it would be a fun idea to turn the whole thing into a habitat.

It’s gonna stink a lot; keep the enclosure outside of the home

I thought they only really stink if they’re uncut males or if you wash them

I work with ferrets, so maintaining a pet one you might be right.

I had ferrets that were ‘de-scented’ and fixed and they still had a musk to them that made our whole house smell. I didn’t live in a large house, but you could immediately smell ferret when you walked in the door.

Huh. But I guess so do most dog owners’ homes and some cat peoples’ homes? I don’t know, I’ve never had a ferret, just had friends who have. Is it that bad?

I found our ferrets to have more of a skunk smell. I totally hear what you mean about dog smell, but if your home smells like cat, then you’re likely not cleaning the litter box often enough.

Ferrets need around 2-4 hours of playtime and attention each day. You can set up tunnels, toys, and safe spaces for them to explore. If you’re gaming, you can let them roam in a playpen or ferret-proofed area nearby to keep them entertained while you’re focused.
