Cut down the base of the tree, then you should be able to reach and grab it.

Thanks, lol
You could try a large ‘hook’ with a 3-4 foot string but barely tied to your DJI so it’s easy to break away. Or find someone with a Phantom, that should make it easier. Do everything on a calm day. If it’s about the height of a streetlight, you can get lightweight extendable painting poles, I have one that’s 18 feet. You can buy or rent one.
I have a motorized claw for situations like this.

Charge for that and make some money
@Emerson
I mainly use it to retrieve model rockets from trees. Here’s a link if anyone’s interested: Universal UAV FPV Drones Remote Control Mechanical Gripper Clamp Clip For DJI | eBay

I keep it on a drop box just in case I get stuck.

For situations like this, I would want a longer lanyard.
A couple rounds of bird shot out of a 12 gauge should do the trick.
Tree is haunted now.
I wouldn’t recommend practice drones. They’re a waste of money, real drones usually don’t end up in situations like this.

I actually recommend practice drones so you don’t get a real drone stuck in a situation like this. If you think a real drone will just avoid trees, you might be in for a rough time.
@Vale
A real drone would probably refuse to go into that situation and would be stable enough that it doesn’t end up there on its own.

Sure. But relying on “most likely” isn’t foolproof. Basic piloting skills should be learned on cheap drones. They don’t make it too easy, in my opinion.
@Vale
I see your point, but we’ll have to agree to disagree.
