Has RBC lost their minds over currency exchange?

Honestly, just tell them, ‘You own them now. Here’s the closest TD branch if you want to exchange them!’

Consider emptying your RBC account before doing any back-and-forth. If they refuse to give you access to your own money, switch to firm mode. No need to be polite if they’re freezing funds over their mistake.

@Jin
Be careful not to admit there’s anything wrong with the francs. There’s no reason for them to think there is.

I feel like OP left out a lot of details that would help make sense of why RBC was so picky.

Haha, perfect response.

Except RBC is the one in control of OP’s money.

Lol!!! That’s a good one.

I doubt that’d go over well in court, but funny suggestion!

Or better yet, ask for contact info for the branch manager’s boss so you can complain.

Haha!

As a banker, this sounds odd. RBC shouldn’t have taken your ID for a transaction on behalf of your brother—it’s against their rules.

And it’s not standard for them to hold your funds for something like this. I’d suggest filing a complaint with the Ombudsman.

@Quin
Maybe demand a meeting with the branch manager and their superior to explain why this is suddenly your problem. And if they push back, withdraw your funds and leave RBC for good.

Unless you have a huge amount of money, I doubt the manager’s boss will care.

@Perrin
They might care if you mention escalating to the ombudsman or going to the media. Banks usually don’t want that.

Let’s be real, you’d probably be laughed off.

I don’t understand why people think demanding to speak to the manager always helps. Just makes people roll their eyes most of the time.

@Quin
Yeah, this sounds like they messed up due to your brother’s involvement and are now panicking. Maybe someone thought it was more serious than a currency exchange issue.

@Quin
RBC does require an account for foreign currency exchange, at least that’s been my experience. Makes sense that they would attach this to an account.

Which branch?

Take those francs to a currency exchange place for a better rate, then close your RBC account.
