High CPU usage causing ping spikes and packet loss... any ideas?

Hey everyone, I’m dealing with some frustrating issues while playing Marvel Rivals. My setup is an i9 10900k and a 3060. I’ve been experiencing a ton of packet loss and my ping is all over the place. I checked all the network settings and everything looks fine, so I started to wonder if my CPU might be the culprit. I capped the game at 30 FPS and my ping dropped to about 40. But when I unlock the FPS, it shoots up to 200-250 and then climbs to 80-100 with packet loss. Locking it back to 30 brings it down to 40 instantly. What’s going on here? I tried setting interrupt affinity for the Realtek controller on a different core, but the game’s anti-cheat doesn’t allow changes to process affinity. I also tried Process Lasso, but that hasn’t worked either.

Have you checked what’s running on your computer? Sometimes there might be a virus or a crypto miner lurking around. You could use Process Explorer to get a better look at what’s happening.

I had a similar issue once. It might help to check your startup programs too. Autoruns can show you what’s set to run at startup. Sometimes there are unnecessary programs that slow everything down.

Also, have you considered monitoring your CPU usage while gaming? It could be a thermal issue where the CPU is throttling due to overheating. You might want to check your temperatures.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I’ll definitely check out Process Explorer and Autoruns. If I find anything weird, I’ll update you. And I’ll look into my CPU temps too.
