I commonly use Win+Tab to create a new ‘desktop’ to load games in the background when they refuse to let me alt-tab. Sometimes when I do this, Windows Explorer will crash or freeze. Now if this happens on a regular screen, I can use C,A,D to open Task Manager and restart it. But Task Manager doesn’t open ‘between’ desktops when you’ve pressed Win+Tab. So far, I’ve been logging out via the CAD menu, which closes all processes and restarts Windows Explorer, but it also closes the game. I just want to know if there’s a way to restart Windows Explorer without Task Manager or CMD. It has to be accessible when you’re in the Win+Tab screen or after pressing CAD.
I think there’s a slightly better thing to do. I had the same issue with a game. First, push Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager and click one of the three tabs at the top. It’s like File or Options or something. Turn on the ‘Always on top’ option. In previous Windows versions, Task Manager would always appear on top when selected.
That’s a smart move! I didn’t know about that setting.
So then you can just restart Explorer from there, right?
I had to deal with this too. Restarting Explorer can be a lifesaver for those long-loading games.
Yeah, it’s frustrating when things freeze like that. Glad to see others have similar issues!
Remember, you can always try creating a shortcut to restart Explorer quickly. Might save you some time!
