How do I go about contacting exotic animal dealers for monkeys, amphibians, and other exotic pets in Massachusetts?

I’m looking to find exotic animals like monkeys and amphibians for sale. I live in Massachusetts and want to know how to get in touch with dealers or breeders that sell these animals. Can anyone help me out?

You can’t own monkeys in Massachusetts. The only way you could do this is if you have a permit from the fish and wildlife service, but these permits are typically given to rehabilitators or those who rescue animals, not for personal pets. Monkeys as pets are illegal in most places, and owning one can be very difficult ethically and legally. For amphibians, it really depends on the type of animal you’re looking for.

@Reese
When it comes to exotic pets, keeping amphibians or most reptiles is generally more accepted than owning monkeys. Unfortunately, you’re right. Monkeys are only legal in 26 states, and Massachusetts isn’t one of them. Some states require permits, while others don’t, but you can’t keep a monkey in Massachusetts as a pet.

@Jesse
Where can I find information about which states allow monkeys as pets? I’ve had trouble finding clear information on the laws around exotic animals. Many websites claim to have the info, but I’m not sure how trustworthy they are.

@Jesse
Unfortunately, Massachusetts is not one of those 26 states.

If you’re someone who wants to own a monkey as a pet, then it’s unfortunate. I don’t live in Massachusetts, but you have your opinion. If you’re against exotic pets, then why are you even in this forum for exotic pet enthusiasts?

@Jesse
I never said I am against exotic pets. I’m simply saying monkeys should not be kept as pets. Ask anyone working at a rehab center, and they’ll tell you the same. Monkeys and other wild animals need special care and an environment they can thrive in, which private owners can’t always provide. Animals like foxes, kangaroos, and bears shouldn’t be kept as pets either.

@Reese
It sounds like you’re against keeping any animals that aren’t dogs or cats as pets.

I’m a breeder of an exotic animal, and I’m not against keeping exotic animals. I’m just for keeping common sense when deciding which animals should be pets. Not every exotic animal should be kept as a pet, but you can still support ownership of some species as long as the care is right.

@Reese
Okay, then what kinds of exotic pets do you think people should own?

What pets? Any pet besides dogs, cats, and livestock is considered exotic. Some animals are okay to keep as pets, but it’s all about providing the right environment for them. Monkeys and bears shouldn’t be pets because they can’t get the proper care they need. But pets like gerbils, rats, and reptiles can thrive as pets in the right homes.

@Reese
What about domesticated Russian silver foxes? Are those okay to keep?

Monkeys, foxes, and bears should not be pets. These animals need more than just survival. They need to thrive, which is impossible to provide in most private homes.

Can exotic pets like monkeys be shipped to the UK?

Why would you want to ship a monkey?
