My grandparents windows laptop just died and I think a Chromebook would be good. Do updates work like Windows where you’ll keep getting them no matter what laptop, or like an Android phone?
Chromebooks are perfect for grandparents. Easy to use, no headaches with updates like Windows. Just set it and forget it!
Hold up, but don’t they stop updating after a few years? My old Android phone is a brick now because of that.
Yeah, they do stop updates eventually, but it’s usually 6-8 years, which is plenty for most people. Plus, they’re super secure!
But what happens after those 6-8 years? Do you just toss it and buy a new one? Seems wasteful to me.
Windows laptops last way longer if you take care of them. My dad’s been using the same one for 10 years! Can’t say the same for Chromebooks.
Updates aren’t a big deal. Most people upgrade their tech every few years anyway. Chromebooks are cheap, so replacing them isn’t a huge hit.
Cheap doesn’t always mean better, though. I’d rather pay more upfront for something that’ll last longer. Quality over quantity, y’know?
Honestly, if it’s for grandparents, simplicity is key. Chromebooks are practically virus-proof, and they won’t need constant tech support from us.
But what if they need specific software that only works on Windows? Chromebooks are limited in that sense.
