How does movie piracy affect independent filmmakers compared to big studios?

As a huge fan of indie films, I’ve been wondering about the impact of movie piracy. While I understand that piracy affects the whole industry, I’m curious how it specifically impacts independent filmmakers compared to big studios. Do indies face greater challenges due to smaller budgets and fewer resources, or is piracy equally damaging across the board? How does it affect their ability to continue creating?

Piracy is really crushing for indie filmmakers, way more than for big studios. Indies just don’t have the cash to bounce back. What do y’all think? :money_with_wings:

I get what you’re saying, but I feel like piracy sucks for everyone. Big studios lose millions, and yeah, they’ve got money, but it’s still a hit. :man_shrugging:

True, but consider it—big studios can offset losses with merch, sequels, and international sales. Indies? One flop, and they’re done. Piracy just speeds that up. :clapper::skull:

But aren’t big studios the ones spending insane amounts on marketing? They blow millions on ads, and piracy hits them harder in that sense. Indies don’t waste cash like that.

Yeah, but indie filmmakers don’t have huge marketing budgets in the first place! They rely on word of mouth and small releases. Piracy cuts into that fragile system more than a blockbuster losing a few million. :movie_camera:
