I just loaded up my cart on Mazuri, and it’s $2,000. It’ll last me more than 3 months, but that’s still a lot, and it doesn’t even include the reptile supplies. Some of the stuff isn’t really necessary, like buying different types of koi food to mix, but I also spent a lot on supplements.
Some of this stuff lasts a year, some less. My rodent and reptile food lasts over a year since I buy it in bulk.
I have sugar gliders, and while I’d need to do the math for an exact number, I’d guess I spend about $100-120 a month. Their food is perishable, so I make it about two weeks at a time to avoid issues like frostbite.
If I buy them bugs as treats consistently, I can easily spend another $100 a month.
There are a few different approved diets for sugar gliders. I follow one where I can get everything at my local grocery store. This way, I avoid extra shipping and handling costs, and it’s not marked up as pet food.
I spend $100 a month on Mazuri and around $50 on meats because we have a super cheap local store. I also get a lot of produce for free since grocery stores throw out perfectly good stuff just because new shipments come in.
I breed my own feeder insects and feed them leftovers from my other pets. I spend around $50 a month on a big hay bale and $30 a month on all-stock feed.

That’s nothing compared to what I spend, haha. My food bills are wild.

If I wasn’t using discount stores and free stuff, my costs would be way higher. I’ve got over 100 animals, and I’m only 19.
@Axel
I’ve got over 300 animals. Feeding them all is no joke.

I’m getting another African wildcat, a serval, and maybe a bobcat soon, so my costs are going to go up.

I have 5 servals. They’re amazing.
@Fintan
Do you breed them?
Not yet, but I want to start in the future.
I might be in the market for one soon. I’m about to get my USDA Class C license.
@Axel
Which state are you in? The permit process is crazy hard in some places.

It depends on the state. Here, the process is strict but manageable if you follow the steps.

Right now, I have a sibling pair of African wildcats, and I’m getting another male from Florida soon to start breeding them.
