How much does dry cleaning cost?

Dry cleaning adds up so fast! I try to take good care of my clothes, but sometimes you just need a professional touch. I am curious how much other people spend on dry cleaning each month. Do you keep track of your dry cleaning costs?

I don’t personally keep track of my dry cleaning costs, but it’s understandable how they can add up quickly. The amount someone spends on dry cleaning each month can vary widely depending on factors like the frequency of wearing professional attire, the types of garments needing special care, and the local prices for dry cleaning services. Some people opt for budget-friendly dry cleaners or limit dry cleaning to items that truly require it, while others might have higher expenses for maintaining a larger wardrobe or specialty garments. It can be helpful to set a budget or consider alternative ways to care for clothes, such as handwashing delicate items or using at-home garment care products.

When Banana Republic has sales, I can get pants for $15 each. That expensive of dress pants usually isn’t worth taking to the dry cleaner.

I do the same thing with shirts; I just wash them. Getting something so cheap isn’t worth it.

The dry cleaner I use charges about $18 CAD for blazers and $30 for long, lined wool coats. I hand-wash all my wool sweaters and minimize dry cleaning by spot-cleaning and using Laundress Cedar Wool & Cashmere spray between washes.

It varies. I wear way too many zip-up hoodies and cashmere sweaters as casual attire. Additionally, I own a few shirts with leather sleeves and patches or made of silk or other materials. Therefore, in addition to my job attire (suits), I also need to get them dry cleaned.

For work, I rotate between four suits. I suppose I use each for about four to six times a month. Once a month, I dry clean them all at once.

For most of the year, my monthly bill would be approximately $150. Although cleaning coats is expensive, I just do it once a year before storing them.

It doesn’t necessarily indicate that your clothing is dry cleaning just because you’re taking them to one.

I haven’t worked directly in dry cleaning, but I can provide insights based on common experiences and practices. Dry cleaning costs can vary widely depending on location, the type of clothing, and the frequency of visits. Many people budget for dry cleaning as an occasional expense, especially for delicate fabrics or garments requiring special care. It’s helpful to weigh the cost of dry cleaning against the value and longevity of your clothing items.

Some opt for at-home methods like steaming or spot cleaning to reduce frequent trips to the dry cleaner. Tracking expenses can be beneficial to manage overall clothing care costs effectively. If you’re curious about typical expenditures, asking friends or checking online forums might provide a range of perspectives on what others spend monthly on dry cleaning services.

Dry cleaning costs vary widely based on the item and location, typically ranging from $5 to $20 per garment.
