I was trying to do a key entry, and while removing the cover, I accidentally snapped the latch that holds it in place. Does anyone know what part this is called or how much it costs to replace it? I’m not sure what to search for to find the right replacement.
What year is your Hyundai? I had to remove mine too because my remote stopped working. After replacing the battery a few times, I gave up and now only use key entry, or I have to spend $250+ for a new key.
As for the part you broke, they might need to replace the entire handle. I’m not sure about the cost, but I’d suggest sending a picture to a local Hyundai service center and asking for a quote. Then you can shop around for a better price.
It’s a 2021 model.
Oh man, same year as mine. Is yours a Sonata?
Yeah, it’s a Sonata.
Please let us know what you find out. I had the same issue with mine shortly after buying it, but I don’t want to spend more than $50 to fix it.
Where do you keep your key when you’re not using it?
We’ve seen several customers with this issue, where they leave the key too close to the car, and it drains the battery fast. Once they start keeping the key further away, the batteries last much longer.
You could try gluing it back on, but don’t use too much glue so it can still pop off when needed. Alternatively, go to a junkyard. You might find a similar cap for a few bucks. Sometimes they’re interchangeable across models.
Try calling some local locksmiths to see if they have a spare part.
You’ll likely need to replace the entire handle. It’s a poor design, and I’ve had to replace a few. Not the easiest fix, though.
Usually, the dealership will replace the entire door handle trim. Where I am, it costs around 100 EUR.
You could just super glue the cap back on.
How am I supposed to remove it next time if I glue it? That’s not really a great solution.
I’ve had older Sonatas, so I’m familiar with broken handles. They usually have them in stock at the dealership or online. The hard part is figuring out what the broken piece is called. I found an online parts seller with an exploded view of the assembly, and I ordered the piece and a gasket by part numbers.
I’m not sure if this is the exact part, but it might help. Here’s a link: 2021 Hyundai Sonata Exterior Door Handle Cover (Left, Front). W - 82652L1100 | Wholesale Hyundai Parts, Lakeland FL
Terrible design. Not sure what Hyundai was thinking with that.
Just replace the cap. It comes unpainted, but it’s an easy fix. Been working on Hyundais for 12 years.
The door handle part is pretty cheap from the dealer, but for some models like the Ioniq Hybrid, it comes unpainted, and painting it can be a bit expensive.
