Hi everyone, I’m a computer science student working on a smart meter project to monitor my household’s electric usage remotely. I’m using an ESP32 with a PZEM-004T and have watched various videos and read documentation on setting it up.
My main concern is safety. I’m considering connecting the PZEM-004T to the main power supply of my home and running it 24/7. I don’t have much experience with electronic modules, so I want to be sure this setup won’t present any long-term risks or safety concerns.
Is this safe to do, or are there precautions I should take? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!
Which school are you attending? They should have emphasized the dangers of working with mains voltage. Unless you have the proper training, you should avoid working directly with household mains power, especially for a project like this.
Be cautious. According to this link, the PZEM-004T doesn’t meet US safety standards. You should take extra care if you’re planning to use it with your household mains supply.
