Is my stock alternator enough for two 12” subs?

Hey folks, I’m working on a 2014 Ford F-150 King Ranch 5.0 V8 and I have a question about my alternator. I’m running two 12” subs and I’m wondering if the stock 220 amp alternator can handle the load.

I tried looking up the car’s amperage usage or free amperage online, but I couldn’t find it. Any advice or tips on how to find this info would be really helpful!

Also, I’ve had a 10” compact prefab sub/amp in a previous truck (2013 Ford F-150 XLT 5.0 V8) which was a 2ohm 220w RMS 800w max setup. Do you think a 400w RMS 800w max sub would be a better fit? I used to bump the old system a lot and it sounded pretty good, but now I want to get better speakers since I’ve got more room to work with. Any thoughts on that?

Can you give more details on your amp? What size is it?

The size of the sub doesn’t matter as much as how much power you want to send to them. A 220 amp alternator should handle up to 2000 watts without any problems.

The subs themselves aren’t the issue; it’s about how many amps your amplifier is drawing. Anything under 1500 watts should be fine. Maybe even up to 2k watts without any issues.

You’re not being specific enough. How much power are you trying to send to each sub? Do you have an amp already? Your stock alternator should be able to handle around 1000 watts RMS per sub with no problem. If you go over that, you might need a more powerful alternator. I’m running 1800 watts RMS on my stock F-150 Ecoboost alternator and I haven’t had any issues so far.

I just installed two 12s, each with 1000 RMS, and I’m still running fine with the stock alternator.

If you install a Big 3 upgrade, you shouldn’t have any issues with your setup.
