Is this laptop a good buy?

I’m looking to get my girlfriend her first gaming laptop. It needs to be portable, otherwise I’d just build her a PC. Anyone got suggestions on what I should get her?

Are open box items worth it? I’m thinking of getting one because the price is so tempting.

I’ve bought open box stuff from Best Buy before and never had any issues. Most of the time they’re just returns from people who tried it out or didn’t need it anymore.

Thanks for sharing!

I think they’re good deals most of the time. I got a 2024 Zephyrus G14 with a 4070 and 32GB RAM for around $1,200, but I had to buy the charger separately for $180. The original price of the laptop is $2,000, so even with the extra charger cost, it was a steal.

Used to work at Best Buy (Canada). Open boxes are usually a great deal if you can get over the fact they were opened. Like others said, they’re mostly just returns. At our store, Geek Squad checked them to make sure they worked properly before selling them again. Sometimes near the end of the month, we’d discount open boxes even more to meet sales goals. Definitely worth a look.

Good deal for the specs, but there’s only one SSD slot, and the screen might not be the best.

Not sure about the laptop itself, but I’d spend the extra $30 to get the ‘excellent’ condition. The ‘good’ one might have been used with replacement parts, while ‘excellent’ is probably just a return. That’s how I see it with open box items.

@Arnold
Yeah, I’m thinking of getting the same laptop in ‘excellent’ condition too.

It’s okay, but if you look around more, you’ll find better deals.

Go for it, sounds like a good buy!

The screen’s color is only 62.5% sRGB, but if you’re using an external monitor, it should be fine.

512GB isn’t enough storage, man. Find one with at least 1TB.

In Hungary, a laptop like this would cost at least $2,000, and salaries here are way lower than in the U.S. You guys are lucky!

I wouldn’t recommend a Victus laptop. They’re worse than Dell. Victus is HP OMEN’s budget gaming laptop line.

Yeah, I avoid HP in general, but the price isn’t bad.

Do they offer returns?

Yep, you can return it within 15 days.

Nice! You’ve got nothing to lose then!

Bad screen and build quality, but good specs for the price. I’d wait for a Legion Slim 5 or LOQ with a 4060 to go on sale instead.
