Being the original owner really helped you there.
A new engine at 28k miles? That’s wild.
Take it on the highway and push it hard… just kidding, don’t do that. The noise might be from the CVVT being all clogged with sludge.
I would do that if I knew the warranty would cover it. I don’t want to break it completely if it won’t be covered.
That was sarcasm. But credit to you for owning up to the maintenance issues instead of just blaming Hyundai/Kia.
What other options do you have at this point?
None really. Still owe a ton on this car.
Definitely don’t park it somewhere that might encourage the Kia Boyz to take it. Not on weekends in a bar area, especially if you leave it unlocked…
Yeah, just leave it unlocked and let the Kia Boyz take it.
Without records showing proper maintenance, it’s unlikely you’ll get any warranty coverage. I’d still suggest taking it to a Hyundai dealership to see what they say.
That’s the issue. We didn’t keep the receipts for the maintenance we did, and there’s that gap in oil changes. We only have one recent receipt.
They might still cover it, but they have valid reasons not to. Warranties usually cover defects, not neglect. I’d still talk to a dealership to see if there’s any chance.
If you had oil changes done at a shop, they might have entered the VIN into a database. Check CarFax for any records.
Is CarFax the only service that offers maintenance records?
It’s the most reliable but expensive. Cheaper services might miss things. Free ones are usually worthless.
Your girlfriend not keeping up with maintenance means no warranty for you. Sad but true.
You skipped oil changes for a year and a half? That engine is toast.
That depends on how much it was driven.
Doesn’t matter, they’ve missed at least three oil changes. Hyundai engines can’t handle that like Honda or Toyota engines.
So Honda and Toyota will cover an engine with no oil changes?
