My uncle gave me a drone he bought years ago… Is it any good?

I used to have this exact setup, even the small monitor on the controller. It’s from Eachine, probably from Banggood. Not the latest tech, but it’s still fun to use. Enjoy it.

That looks like a blast to fly. Drones that size can be surprisingly fast, so take it slow at first. Try using a simulator like Velocidrone to practice before flying for real.

Can simulators work with joysticks? Would love to use the actual controller.

@Zeke
Yes, but an Xbox controller isn’t the best option.

Why not?

Xbox controllers don’t give you enough precision. Proper drone controllers have more sensitive sticks.

@Vega
When I plug the controller into my PC, it beeps but doesn’t work with FPV Skydive.

Part of the fun is figuring out how to set these things up. It might need some tweaking.

@Vega
You might need to adjust some settings to get it working.

If the PC connection doesn’t work, focus on understanding the flight controller software, like Betaflight. Try setting it to angle mode to get started.

@Vega
I’ve been practicing in acro mode with an Xbox controller. Is that okay?

That’s fine for practice, but it won’t feel the same as a real drone.

Even for FPV flying?

@Alex
It’s not ideal. Real FPV controllers offer better precision, which matters when flying.

@Vega
Betaflight might not even work with this old setup. It probably runs on PWM with an early CC3D board. You’d need an old version of Cleanflight, if you can even find it.

Can your uncle help you get it running? He might know more about its quirks.

Using that little monitor for FPV might be frustrating. Goggles would be better.

@Zeke
Yes, simulators like Liftoff work great with proper drone controllers. I use mine with a Radiomaster Boxer.

It’s a good starter drone for FPV racing. If you want better video quality, consider adding a small 4K action camera.
