No operating system detects the NVIDIA graphics card (laptop)

My Asus X556UB laptop has an i7 6500U processor and an NVIDIA 940M graphics card.

I have tried:

  1. Checked the motherboard (no issues found)
  2. Installed both Linux and Windows 10 and 11

My question:

Is this a BIOS issue, or is the GPU likely dead?

It could be a BIOS issue or a setting that’s preventing the GPU from being recognized. Have you checked for any BIOS updates or settings related to graphics? Sometimes you need to enable discrete graphics manually.

I haven’t checked the BIOS yet. I’ll look into that. Thanks for the suggestion!

If the BIOS settings seem fine, you might want to try reseating the GPU if possible or checking for any physical damage. If the GPU is integrated and you can’t access it, it might be harder to troubleshoot.

Good point! I’ll inspect for any physical issues as well. I just hope it’s not dead.

By the way, I translated my post using Google Translate; I hope it’s clear enough!
