Nursing school won’t release my transcripts... what can I do?

I finished my nursing program at a private school back in August 2024, but they still haven’t sent my transcripts or my completion info to the state. I’ve reached out multiple times and don’t owe them any money, so I’m not sure what’s going on. Can I take legal action to get this resolved?

That sounds so frustrating. Have you tried talking to the registrar’s office directly?

Yeah, I’ve called them a bunch, but they keep dodging my questions or telling me to wait.

Maybe try sending them a written request via certified mail. That way, you have proof you reached out.

If they’re still not responding, you could file a complaint with the state’s education board or licensing authority.

Good idea. Do you know how long something like that takes?

Depends on the state, but they usually act faster when it involves professional licensing issues.

If you’ve tried everything and still no luck, you might need a lawyer. They can push the school to comply.

I’m considering that. Would a lawyer be worth it for something like this?

Probably, especially if this is delaying your license. Some lawyers offer free consultations, so you can see if it’s worth pursuing.

You could also try contacting your state nursing board. They might have some leverage with the school.

That’s a good idea. I’ll reach out to them and see if they can help.

Make sure to document everything—emails, calls, who you spoke to, and what they said. It’ll help if you escalate this.

Great point. I’ll start writing down everything from now on.
