Hey everyone, I’ve got an HP Z440 workstation CPU and it doesn’t have Bluetooth, so I’m using the headphone jack. There are two ports—one for headphones and one for the mic. I don’t have a separate mic or another wired headphone to test the mic section. It used to detect my headphone’s input and output just fine, but now the mic isn’t detected unless I plug it into the mic port, which kinda defeats the purpose. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
If you have the Realtek audio driver, there’s usually a way to remap the inputs. Check if you have the ‘Realtek HD Audio Manager’ installed.
I don’t have that one but I do have the default Microsoft and the Nvidia drivers. I’ve already updated and reinstalled those.
I don’t think I downloaded that one. Should I go for it?
For sure! Also, consider installing the HP Support Assistant. It can help download missing drivers. You can uninstall it after if you want.
Have you checked the HD Audio header? Sometimes it can get loose over time.
I haven’t checked that yet… I’ll look into it.
I found a tip online that might help: while the headset is plugged in, try searching for Realtek Audio Console and change the settings to ‘headset’ instead of ‘headphones’.
I don’t think I have the Realtek Audio Console… should I download that too?
Double-check your sound settings! Make sure the right input device is selected.
Yeah, I’ve already updated the audio drivers and checked the settings, but it still doesn’t detect the mic input.
Try plugging and unplugging the headphone a few times. Sometimes, it can help clean the connectors.
Good idea! I’ll give that a shot. Thanks!
