Roblox adds child safety measures… but is it too little, too late?

Roblox just rolled out new child safety measures, but a lot of people are questioning whether this is just a cover-up for how bad things have been for years.

FYI, these ‘safety’ changes require adults to make a new account if they don’t already have one. Feels like Roblox is using this to inflate their user numbers after all the heat they’ve been getting for bots.

@Langston
Honestly, Roblox is one of the scummiest games out there.

TLDR summary

Roblox has made some updates for child safety, but people still think it’s not enough. Investigations have shown that kids have been able to interact with strangers and see inappropriate content for a long time. Even with the new changes, there’s no real way to stop kids from using fake birthdays or getting into mature content. Roblox’s lack of strong age verification and weak parental controls are still a big problem.

What do they want next? Asking for a driver’s license just to sign up?

Remember IMVU? That old chatroom game used to ask for a credit card number to get into the 18+ servers. I don’t know if they still do that, but it’s better than nothing.

@Shannon
Yeah, but that’s not gonna stop creeps from going into the kids’ sections anyway.

My kid was showing me Roblox one time, and he accidentally walked into an area where other players had set up a mass suicide scene with hanging avatars.

Oh, you mean a company saw a problem and didn’t fix it? Shocking…

They probably didn’t just ignore it, they likely encouraged it. The more ‘active users’ they have, the better they look to investors. Doesn’t matter who’s on the platform.

@BrianCopland
And the more kids get scammed out of in-game items, the more they’ll spend to get them back. Why would Roblox care? It’s all profit to them.

It’s saying a lot about Roblox when I’m actually relieved my younger siblings moved to Fortnite and Overwatch 2.

I’ve never let my kids on Roblox, and they never will. Problem solved for me.

My 8-year-old keeps begging for it. I haven’t caved yet, but posts like this remind me why I’m holding strong.

We banned our kids from Roblox after one of them stumbled into a public bathroom zone where all kinds of weird stuff was going down. The chat alone was enough for us to pull the plug. Our kids can handle a lot, but Roblox and YouTube are off-limits.
