So, my son’s godmother and I were on this email thread with his teacher and principal. Somehow, screenshots with my son’s name and info about mental health services ended up at her job! It’s been 3 weeks, and they keep saying they didn’t send it. Feels like a major privacy issue to me. Anyone ever dealt with something like this?
Whoa, that sounds serious. Did you contact anyone higher up, like the school district or board?

Yeah, we reached out to the school board and the superintendent’s office. They told us to go back to the principal but to include a supervisor this time. It’s tricky since his godmother used to work there.

Sounds awkward. Did the principal explain how it might’ve happened?

Not really… just said they didn’t send it to her job. But still no answers on how it got there.
Since her job has a contract with the school system, they’re probably being extra careful with this. Could explain the slow response.

Yeah, her job mentioned it’s unethical and are deciding on how to handle it, but they haven’t shared the actual emails yet.
Maybe it’s time to get a lawyer involved. Privacy stuff with kids can be a big deal.

We tried, but it’s been tough to find the right kind of lawyer. One we contacted didn’t handle this kind of case and didn’t suggest where to go.

Look for a lawyer specializing in education or privacy rights. They might have experience with this type of case.
Are you keeping track of everything? Like emails, calls, etc.? Could be useful if it comes down to legal action.

Yeah, his godmother has everything saved and put in a timeline. Just in case it goes further.
Any chance it was just an accident? Sometimes stuff gets forwarded by mistake, though it’s still a huge problem.

Maybe… but with the history between the godmother and the principal, we can’t help but think there’s more going on.

Understandable. Hope you find out what happened soon. Waiting around must be so frustrating.
