As soon as they found out, they told me to stop. So many people have said that to me.
But I just passed a prop firm account on my first try, which shows I can be profitable. I know what I’m doing. The only one supporting me is my uncle because he’s with FTMO and knows my skills. I’m not sure how to handle this since I’m younger than most of them. Has this happened to anyone else?
It’s pretty normal for family and friends to react this way. They often see trading as gambling or a big risk.
People fear what they don’t understand, which fits here!
Don’t worry about it. Just keep doing what you love, keep learning, and keep getting better. I don’t care about the details of my friends’ jobs as long as they’re happy, and they shouldn’t worry about mine or yours.

Thanks so much for the support! I get why people see it as gambling since they haven’t experienced profitability, and I know trading is tough. But the same can be said for being a doctor or an engineer. I even have a pilot license and I’m learning to trade—sounds like a win-win, right? I have a backup plan.
What others think doesn’t matter. Your view is what counts. Look at trading as a way to grasp the bigger picture of the economy, how money flows, and how major institutions operate. Trading is more than just charts; it’s a lifelong learning experience. If you see it this way, the opinions of others won’t bother you.

That’s true. Many traders I know are scammers who take money for courses and make people think it’s a get-rich-quick scheme. Once you really dig into trading, you see how complex it is, which is why I get frustrated when family tells me to stop. I just passed my first prop firm account and now I need to stay focused until I get my first payout to build capital. And they want me to quit? Really?
Just passing a prop firm account doesn’t mean you’re profitable; it just shows you got lucky for a bit. Don’t let your ego get in the way; that can ruin you fast.
And why do you care if people support you? You have a pilot license, right? If everyone told you AI would replace pilots soon, you’d still go for it, wouldn’t you? So why worry about their opinions?
I was in your shoes about 17 years ago. If you want support, act older than your age. You sound like you might not be over 20, and respect is earned, not just given. It’s tough to respect someone who can’t type well but talks big about trading.

Forex has a bad image. Many see it as gambling or risky. Don’t be mad at your friends and family; they’re just trying to look out for you. They don’t get that Forex can be safe when you trade wisely. They don’t know about risk management or the mental side of it. It’s all about showing them, not telling. Once you become consistently profitable, they’ll see and support you.

Thanks a lot! This is solid advice. I’ll get there eventually I really appreciate it.
Unlike the other guy who gets mad at my lack of capitals, haha.

I get why they see it as gambling. I thought the same before I started, and I’m still learning. But trust me, that’s how most people, especially older ones, view it.
Just keep at it, and as long as you manage your risk, you’ll be fine!

Exactly! I think the ones who told me to stop probably had big losses in their own accounts. I once saw my dad trade secretly and he blew up a $5000 account, which is why I prefer prop firms. I don’t have the capital, but blowing up a $5000 account is wild.

Honestly, I see it as a good thing. Having people doubt you can motivate you to prove them wrong.

Thanks! I’ll use that motivation to keep pushing forward.

Do it! I always say there’s no harm in trading as long as you’re smart about it. You could trade for years without wasting a dime.

I see what you mean, but approaching things with the mindset of proving others wrong comes from the ego. It’ll take away your happiness. Focus on yourself instead of trying to prove anyone wrong. Prove yourself right for your own sake! It’s a small change in thinking but much healthier in the long run.

It’s about motivation. Instead of seeing it as negative, view it as a challenge. It drives you to work hard. Emotions don’t matter when you’re focused on a goal. Use any motivation you can get, even if it’s from your ego.

Imagine being successful, making more money than they can even think of while sitting at home.
They went to school, built careers, and then here you are, seeming to make money with minimal effort.
That’s why they want you to stop; they can’t handle the thought of you succeeding.
This is why you shouldn’t share your trading journey with others; people can be rigid and hard to deal with.

You’re not just a trader; you’re an independent market analyst. People will always fill gaps in their knowledge with whatever makes sense to them.
