Stolen iPhone, can they hack it?

I recently had my iPhone 14 Pro stolen a week ago. I immediately activated iCloud Lock and notified my phone carrier to render the phone useless with other carriers. I also put a note on the iCloud lock with my number in case someone found it and wanted to call me.

Today, I received a text message from a ‘recycling merchant’ that says to go to iCloud and ‘remove this device’; otherwise, when they sell my iPhone for parts, people can hack into my motherboard and gain access to all my old data. Is this true, or are they trying to trick me into giving them access?

Don’t remove the device from iCloud! If you do, they can potentially access it. The iCloud Lock is meant to protect your data.

Sounds like a scam to me. As long as you have iCloud Lock enabled, your data should be safe.

They might be trying to scare you into removing the lock. It’s always best to keep your device secured as it is.

No, they can’t hack your data if iCloud Lock is active. Just ignore their message and report it if needed.

You did the right thing by locking it! Stay vigilant and don’t engage with them.
