Hey folks, I’ve got a 22.5’ post-refresh Custom Trailboss, and honestly, I’m not feeling the front end at all. The grille without the bow tie doesn’t sit right with me, and the headlights are kinda bland—no way to modify them other than just changing bulbs.
Here’s my question: Can I swap an LT grille onto my Custom? And if so, can I also replace the headlights by adding that extra vent piece where the current housing covers? Seems like it should be straightforward, but I haven’t been able to find any solid info. Has anyone here done this or know if it’s possible?
Actually, the Custom ended up costing me about $5k more than an LT would’ve. I don’t have any issues with the truck except for the grille. Other than that, it looks and performs way better than the LT in my opinion.
Something doesn’t add up here. I’ve never seen a Custom outperform an LT, and the same goes for an LT beating an RST with similar specs. Not when they’re new, at least.
If you don’t have the time or tools, find a good shop to do it. I picked up a solid black bowtie for mine on eBay for around $50. It’s a perfect match to the grille VIP is selling for $295, so don’t waste your money on that piece.
As for the headlights, I’d say just go with stronger bulbs.
I’ve got a Custom, and I swapped the grille for an LT version. Found one on Marketplace for $150, bolted right up and looks way better. DM me if you want a pic.
You can swap the headlights, but it’s pricey. You’ll need a gen5 harness. Personally, I like the shape of the Custom headlights better than the LT’s. Upgrading the bulbs makes a huge difference too.
Glacier Blue Crew Got the 22 refresh baby diesel LT TB in glacier blue and I’m in love with it! The LT’s front end definitely looks better. (I’m 24 and mine’s fully paid off, just hit 40k miles since new!)
I’m running 20x10 Fuel Clash rims with 33x12.5 Nitto Grapps. No lift or level in this pic. Minor rubbing at full turn because of the offset, but I’ve got a 4” lift now and I’m about to put 35s on.
Thanks for the info! I just put 35/11.5s on a ReadyLift leveling kit. No rubbing with a bit of trimming, but I’m thinking of going bigger… -18 offset. My shop says it’s possible, but I don’t want any rubbing.
