What can I do legally about my daughter’s bullying situation?

My daughter has been dealing with bullying, and it’s gotten so bad that she ended up in a fight and got suspended. The school is aware now, and they had a mediation with the students, but she’s still getting texts and threats through other friends. I’m not sure what legal steps I can take to keep her safe. Any advice?

So sorry you’re dealing with this. Have you asked the school what specific actions they’re taking to keep her safe?

Yes, they said they’d monitor more closely, but my daughter says it doesn’t seem like much has changed.

Typical. Schools say they’ll do something, but it’s often just for show.

Could you send a formal letter to the school district? Might make them take it more seriously if it’s in writing.

I was thinking about that. Maybe they’ll take me more seriously if I have it all documented.

For sure. Written complaints can be a game-changer if you need to escalate things later.

Can you look into getting a ‘no-contact’ order or something similar? It might make them stop the harassment.

I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll look into it to see if it could work in this situation.

Even just mentioning it might make them think twice about sending those messages.

Document everything that happens. It’s easier to get the school to take action if you have a record of it all.

Good point. I’ve been keeping track but might start making it more formal.

Documentation really helps. Harder for them to ignore if you have all the proof.

Maybe push the school to increase support for her? It’s their responsibility to keep her safe.

I’ve asked, but I feel like they’re not doing enough. Might have to press harder.

Absolutely, keep at it. Schools sometimes need a bit of a nudge to take things seriously.
