I noticed this loose piece near my rear axle, and I’m not sure what it is. Should I be worried, or is this something small?
Hey KVH, thanks for posting your question! To help people here give better advice, make sure to share details about your car, like the year, make, model, mileage, engine size, and whether it’s automatic or manual.

That looks like it’s a fuel vent line. It helps with emissions, but it’s not connected. You should get it hooked back up, or it might trigger a check engine light later on.

Thanks for pointing that out! Weirdly, I haven’t seen a check engine light yet, but I’ll definitely check this out.
Good news that there’s no light yet. That line probably just came loose on its own—it’s unlikely anyone messed with it during a brake job. Look near the elbow joint; you should find where it connects. It’s mostly a vent, so it’s not urgent, but if you overfill your tank, it might leak fuel. Better to reattach it when you can.
@Lex
I’ll take a look and try to get it back on. Thanks for breaking it down for me!
Nice tires in the pic haha.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing!
Pretty sure that’s a vent or overflow pipe for the fuel filler. And yeah, those tires need some attention soon.
Honestly, I wouldn’t worry too much about the vent line. But those tires? They’re looking rough. You’ll want to replace them soon, or you could be in trouble when the weather gets bad. Also, don’t forget to check your oil—it never hurts.
Still can’t believe the person who did your brakes didn’t tell you about the tires. You should get those changed right away.
