I’ve been using two different apps to check restricted airspace, and they seem to conflict with each other. One says it’s safe, while the other says it’s not. What should I trust?
I always recommend being cautious. If one app says no, it’s better to avoid flying in that area. Restricted airspace is no joke, and it’s safer to stick to zones where flying is clearly allowed.
It seems like one app is focusing on a single point while the other looks at a larger area that overlaps the restricted zone. Try expanding the view on the first app to see if it matches the second one.
@Merit
Even when I move south of the red border on the first app, it says it’s clear to fly. The second app still marks it as restricted. Not sure which to believe.
The first app might not show Special Use Airspace, but the second one does. R-2515 is a restricted area you definitely want to avoid. Always check the zoomed-in view and make sure you’re also clear to take off from wherever you are.

Here’s a screenshot of the area for reference

Got it. Thanks for sharing the image:

I miss the old B4UFLY app. Now I use AirHub Portal. By the way, what apps are you currently using? Edit: Never mind, I just remembered you mentioned both apps earlier.

I’m using Aloft now.
@Yan
Can you share the exact GPS coordinates? By the way, Aloft was the team behind B4UFLY before they rebranded. Here’s a list of FAA-approved apps if you’re interested: https://www.faa.gov/uas/getting_started/b4ufly

35.23864° N, 117.30398° W
Here’s a quick map for anyone wondering about that location
Better to stay safe and not fly if there’s any doubt.
If different sources give conflicting info, I usually go with the one that allows me to do what I need as long as it’s plausible and safe.
California sure makes this stuff confusing.
You should try Air Control or Air Aware. Just so you know, I work with Aloft.
Have you tried filing a LAANC flight plan? That could clarify if it’s approved or not.

You can’t use LAANC in this case. The area doesn’t allow it.

For those unfamiliar, LAANC is for controlled airspace. Restricted areas like this are Special Use Airspace and aren’t covered by LAANC.
While flying on Sunday, I noticed a plane below 400 feet that wasn’t showing up on any air traffic apps. Isn’t every manned aircraft supposed to be registered and visible? Why wouldn’t it appear?
