Which is worse, charging your battery while it's full or letting it drain to zero?

I’ve been doing some research, and it seems like both charging when it’s full and letting it drain to zero are bad, but no one really says which is worse. I’ve started using my laptop to sleep instead of my phone, but I’m confused. I usually plug my phone in when it’s at 60 and it’s at 98 by morning, but my laptop runs down to zero while I sleep. My charger is super fast and fills it up in a couple of hours, but I’ve heard leaving it plugged in all night isn’t great either. So, what should I do? Is there a better option?

Definitely don’t let your battery drain to zero. They really don’t like that at all! Also, some devices let you set a charging limit to avoid overcharging.

Oh really? I didn’t know I could set a limit. How do I do that?

It varies by device, but usually you can find it in the battery settings. Just look for options around battery health or charging limits.

I’ve read that keeping your battery between 20-80% is the sweet spot. So maybe try charging it when it hits around 30 or 40?

That makes sense! I’ll try to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the tip!

If you can, use a smart plug to control when your charger turns off. You can set it to stop charging after a few hours.

That’s a great idea! I’ll look into getting one. Thanks!
