Why can’t i get this to work… it’s my wife’s and no instructions

I’ve got this old toy that belongs to my wife, but I can’t figure out how to make it work. There’s no manual or anything. Anyone know how to help?

Just toss it like a paper plane and see what happens.

That’s an old toy from the 60s. It was never meant to actually fly. Thought you’d know that by now.

You’re spot on. Check this out: https://www.stumptownblogger.com/2021/07/my-fav-toy-in-1959-60.html. Edit: Google ‘Remco Whirlybird’ for more info.

@Robin
Remco, huh? What a throwback.

@Skyler
Haha, Catdog is such a classic.

Why not just ask your wife? Maybe she knows.

Have you tried asking her boyfriend?

I’m the boyfriend. He didn’t ask me.

Are we talking about the toy helicopter here?

It looks like an H-21 Shawnee helicopter. I couldn’t find any remote-controlled versions, but you might have better luck searching for the model by name.

That logo seems really familiar too. It might belong to an oil or gas company, maybe one dealing with offshore rigs, which would explain the heavy-lift helicopter design.

@Ozzie
Definitely a Shawnee. I couldn’t find the exact paint design or a ready-made model kit either.

The text on the side is just too blurry to read.

@Ozzie
About the logo: It reminds me of Chevron with its blue and red chevron shape. Could also be from an HVAC or plumbing company using similar designs for hot and cold themes. Not sure beyond that.

I thought of Citgo at first, but their logos don’t match. Tried a reverse image search with a mock-up in Paint, and it mostly led to HVAC stickers. The text on the side might clear things up if we could read it.

@Ozzie
Could be we’re overthinking it. Given the age, it might not be well-documented. Just a guess.

At least solving random toy mysteries is better than working right now, haha.

Someone already figured it out. Here’s the link: STUMPTOWNBLOGGER: MY FAV TOY IN 1959-60.

@Ozzie
Looks like it could be an old army unit logo. 11th Air Assault became the 1st Air Cav Division, which used a triangle-shaped design.

Here’s what I found:

Italeri made a kit for it.

There’s also a decal kit from Caracal Models and a model from Amercom.
