Why does Chrome eat up so much memory... even with few tabs open?

I don’t get why Chrome is hogging so much RAM. I have less than 15 tabs open across 3 profiles, and my laptop runs fine otherwise. No malware, no weird glitches—just Chrome eating resources like crazy. Task Manager shows 46 chrome.exe processes running. Is this normal, or am I missing something?

Yeah, that’s normal. Chrome runs every tab and extension in separate processes for security. It’s not the best for memory efficiency, though.

Ah, that makes sense. So nothing I can really do to change that?

Not much, but you can enable Memory Saver mode in Chrome’s settings. It helps by unloading inactive tabs.

All browsers use RAM to store tab content, but Chrome is extra greedy with memory. Try closing unused tabs or using a different browser like Edge or Firefox.

Chrome scary. Tabs scary. Memory usage terrifying. :joy:

My coworker runs 50+ tabs, and his PC freezes constantly. Try limiting open tabs if it’s slowing things down.

Good to know. Mine isn’t slow yet, but I’ll keep an eye on it!

If you have low RAM, Chrome will hit hard. I switched to OperaGX, and it’s way better with memory management.
