Why does my drone keep drifting to the left?

I received a Holy Stone HS360S as a gift from my mother-in-law. This is my first drone. I’ve flown a few drones before but only for short periods, nothing serious. My issue is that when it hovers, it tends to drift left and drop a bit. I got it just yesterday and have flown it three times. I’ve hit the wall a couple of times, but the props don’t seem to have any major damage. Can someone help explain why it does this? I tried flying it indoors without GPS mode, and that seemed to happen. Could this be related to flying indoors without GPS?

Just to confirm, you were flying your new drone inside your house and crashed it into a wall, right?

Yes

Yes

I wouldn’t suggest flying it inside anymore. Try flying it outside with GPS on and let me know how it goes. My first Holy Stone drone acted a bit wild. It flew out of control once, but I managed to get it down gently in a field. I did return it after a few months because it never really worked properly. I hope it works out for you. Good luck!

@Adrian
Thanks! I watched a few videos, and one reviewer said that older Holy Stone WiFi drones weren’t great, but they praised the 360S. I’m not sure what to think.

I have a HS720E, and it works fine for me. I always calibrate it before flying.

I calibrated mine too, even did it during the flight. Maybe it’s the indoor environment that’s causing the issue.

@Lennon
I have other models too, including the 700, 600, and 900, but haven’t tried the 300 series. Hope that helps .

Does the drone have obstacle avoidance? If so, it could be drifting because it detects something in your house and tries to avoid it. That can sometimes cause it to move into something else.

No, it doesn’t have obstacle avoidance.

That was my first drone too. One day, it just forgot how to connect to WiFi, and I couldn’t control it anymore.

It might be an issue with the motor on the front left side.

How can I check if that’s the issue?

If a motor is slower, the drone might try to correct itself by compensating with yaw. You might want to look for any issues with that motor.

If you fly it in sport mode with no GPS, it will drift, just like racing drones.

I have the same drone, and I think the issue is a mix of cheap props and beginner features. After testing other drones, I found it behaves poorly in tight spaces. I wouldn’t recommend flying it indoors. It drifts quite a bit.

@Joss
Did it drift for you even outside with GPS mode on? I tried flying it outside for about 15 minutes yesterday.

Yes, it drifts outdoors too. I’ve only flown mine outside, never inside.

You should have bought a DJI.

It was a gift I didn’t ask for, but I appreciate it.
